The ZAM-99 Roc is a high mobility artillery platform from Hoeller Industries. Like the Shard it is built around a core plasma cannon, but the Roc’s firepower is far greater. This mecha’s unique appearance has been likened to a one-eyed fire breathing monster. The dome on the “tail” is actually the mecha’s head, while the cockpit is located beneath the “eye”.
The Roc’s specialty is long range fire support. In addition to the plasma cannon it also sports a railgun, a skybolt rifle, an intercept laser, two racks of swarm missiles and two racks of incendiary missiles. Just in case any opponents get close enough to return fire, the Roc also has heavy armor and a class 6 ECM suite.
Although Hoeller Industries designed the Roc for a support role, it is frequently used as a command mecha. At 18m tall it’s quite impressive and more than a little bit intimidating. The cockpit is spacious and comfortable. More practically, its long range weapons and sophisticated electronics are well suited to the needs of a battlefield leader.
This mecha is not without its faults. The Roc’s tiny wings are relatively fragile, and the plasma cannon can only be fired five times before it needs to recharge.
The Roc is currently used by Hoeller Industries and the Rocket Stars. Negotiations are underway to export this design to Mars.
