Gearhead RPG Wikia

An ECM (Electronic countermeasures) Suite is an electronic mecha component.

When installed in a mecha, an ECM system allows a pilot to attempt an ECM defense roll to jam incoming ranged attacks. ECM suites vary in class; higher class systems grant a bigger bonus to the roll, but they cost a lot more.

GearHead 1[]

In GearHead 1, ECM systems are SF:0 and so always take up one CMX of capacity in your mecha.

If you are lucky, a mecha shop might stock ECM Suites of classes 1-6. Note that since they are SF:0 you will be carrying them on your person after purchase and will have to transfer them to your mecha first. Many expensive mecha also come with ECM suites. The only way to obtain a class 7 ECM system is to rip it out of a Harpy. Only one class 9 ECM system can ever be obtained per game, from the Argoseyer.

GearHead 2[]

In GearHead 2, ECM systems are SF:2, as are sensors and mecha computers that were also SF:0 in GearHead 1. This means that they will appear in your Field HQ when purchased, and you cannot carry them. On the other hand, they all seem to weigh 1 unit (0.5 t) and occupy 1 CMX of space in your mecha.

When one successfully jams an attack using ECM, the message "<Pilot> disrupted the attack." is printed.
